A cyberattack on November 4, 2022, first described as an IT systems issue, disrupted pharmacies and stores of Sobeys and its other banners across Canada. Privacy regulators in Quebec and Alberta confirmed receiving breach reports from Empire, but the company did not say what personal information was involved. Empire estimated the cost at about $25 million after insurance.
