Canadian IT infrastructure and web operations teams are working quickly to patch a critical security flaw affecting Drupal, one of the most widely used enterprise content management systems across Canada's public and private sectors.

The vulnerability, tracked as CVE-2026-108097 and detailed under advisory SA-CORE-2026-014, involves a Remote Code Execution (RCE) vulnerability located within Drupal core's Field UI module. Rated 19 out of 25 (Critical) by the Drupal Security Team, the flaw carries significant implications for organizations running complex web portals.

What Makes the Vulnerability Dangerous

While default installations of Drupal core are not natively exploitable out of the box, security advisories note that multiple severe exploit pathways open up when the core is paired with specific contributed modules or custom code. Crucially, at least one identified attack path can be triggered by unauthenticated remote actors, meaning an attacker would not need valid system credentials to target vulnerable servers.

Because Canadian federal, provincial, and municipal government websites, alongside major universities, Crown corporations, and enterprise businesses, frequently lean on extensive custom modules and contributed extensions, administrators have been advised to treat the advisory with immediate urgency.

How to Fix and Mitigate CVE-2026-108097

Administrators managing Drupal environments are strongly urged to apply the official core updates.
